Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Ali University (AAU) Branch, Ekpoma, Edo State, has debunked reports that the union was factionalized.
The AAU-ASUU Chairman, Dr. Monday Igbafen, who commented on the issues of alleged factions in the institution said that the union remained one without any faction.
Igbafen spoke while reacting to media reports that the union had been engulfed in a leadership crisis, which disrupted its election scheduled for February 27.
According to the reports, some aggrieved members of the union had frowned at the alleged extension of the tenure of the executive members and accused the chairman of allegedly steering the affairs of the union without regards to the following laid down producures and carrying along of its other members.
The chairman however explained that the union held a congress on April 12 for the purpose of conducting an election into various positions in the branch executive committee of the union.
According to him, a national team led by the union's National Vice President, Prof. Vincent Osodeke, monitored the conduct of the election.
He emphasized that, "The election was generally peaceful with a massive turnout of members. "So, there is no faction. We have held our election.
"Our election has brought an end to the speculation. Everybody participated in the election."
He expressed optimism that the new leadership of the union would continue to work for the improvement of the welfare of it members.
