The planned protests by the members of the Indigenous
Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), on Friday would be described as not holding water in
any part of the state, probably because of the threat and presence of the
police in the 27 Local councils of the state. Heavy presence of
police men, may
have dispersed them. Commissioner of Police in Imo, Taiwo Lakanu, had in a
statement, on Thursday, in Owerri, warned the agitators to be mindful of their
activities on Friday. Speaking with The Guardian, on Friday, the Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police
(DSP), said non of the cobs had sighted any agitator in such name. Said he:
"Our men have gone round, and they have not sighted any IPOB members
protesting today and people are going about their businesses." Also, at
ever-busy Ekeukwu market, along Douglas Road, Owerri capital city, traders were
seen trading in their shops and out street trading, so at every trading points
in the city. People were seen engaging in their brisk businesses.Post Top Ad
