The Guardian gathered that the heavy traffic gridlock caused by the commotion left many motorists stranded as the Custom officer engaged the truck driver in a combat.
Guardian investigation indicated that the trailer driver who was carrying containers was beaten because he refused to settle the Custom officers who mounted roadblock.
The Driver was soaked in his own blood for refusal to part with, 'egunje' as eyewitnesses’ account indicated that he actually refused to stop for search of his vehicle.
However, the action of the Custom men was said to have drawn the ire of his colleague trailer drivers who blocked the road making it impossible for commuter vehicles and other articulated trucks to move.
Most motorists travelling from the north to the southern part of the country including those heading for the northern part of the country were stranded for almost four hours as a result of the activities of the Custom officers.
The officers who threatened to kill who so ever intervene while beating the truck driver shut into the air to scare people away.
But when the officers realised that angry the mob were about to attack them they quickly zoomed off in their vehicle.
It took the intervention of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Police to control the heavy traffic.
