In the spirit of Ramadan, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Hajiya Aishatu Buhari yesterday, donated two trailer loads of food items to Kaduna State Government for onward distribution to its citizens.
Besides, the members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in the state also made similar donation of food items to the Muslim community as part of the Ramadan.
According to Hajiya Buhari, the donation of the food items was part of her efforts to touch the lives of the needy in the society, particularly in this trying moment of the economy and in the spirit of the Ramadan season.
The items donated include cartons of Macaroni, Spaghetti, 5kg bags of Semovita and Wheat.
Represented by the Coordinator, Buhari Support Group, Hajiya Binta Mua'azu, the President's wife said, she feels the pains Nigerians are passing through presently.
However, She assured that the pains of economic crunch are temporary as Mr. President meant well for Nigeria and Nigerians, while stressing that the temporary pains will soon be over and Nigerians will begin to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Although the items donated are meant to be shared among both Christian and Muslim needy in the state, she called on Muslim faithfuls to use the Ramadan period to pray for the peace of the nation and the leaders. Receiving the items onbehalf of the state government, wife of Kaduna State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza El-Rufai supported by wife of the Deputy governor, Mrs Ladi Barnabas Bantex commended the President's wife for the gesture done to the people in the state and prayed Allah to bless her.
Hajiya El-Rufai assured that the items will be distributed to the needy across the three Senatorial zones in the state. Meanwhile, the ECWA Gospel church Tudun Nupawa, Kaduna South local government, State donated various food stuffs to host Muslim community where the church is situated. The efforts according to the senior pastor of the church, Reverend Yunusa Nmadu Jnr which is an annual event is aimed at further fostering religious coexistence, and a way of assisting the needy within the community in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan. Items donated to the beneficiaries from the Panteka market union and the Tudun Nupawa community which host the church include rice, beans, maize, indomie, Millet among others. On the reasons for the donation, Reverend Nmadu said, “The gesture by the church to provide food items to members of the host community during Ramadan is to demonstrate the Biblical injunction that we should love our neighbours as ourselves.” Speaking further, he said that it is important for the church to positively impart the lives of the people of the community; otherwise the church has no business to be there. "We know that there are people in the community that require help in this month of Ramadan, which is why we have brought out quite a number of them to be given the food items. Apart from that, we have also embarked on this to show the world that peace is possible and that we are all peace makers by demonstrating it in practical terms". Nmadu also commended the reformation in the community, saying that “Tudun-Wada/Tudun-Nupawa which used to be in the news for the wrong reasons has since begun on a new slate devoid of violence". "Even though this community used to be a crisis-prone community, there has been a tremendous improvement over the years due to concerted efforts, guidance; counseling and proper leadership provided by the leaders and village heads". Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Sarkin Dutse , Alhaji Shaibu Balarebe who commended the magnanimity of the ECWA church by the consistency of assisting his people during the Ramadan fast in the past two years, also disclosed that he inherited the protection of the church by his late father. He said, he will not relent in protecting all within his domain, even though he said sin is responsible for the insecurity in the country and urged all and sundry to turn to God in true repentance.
